Abstract

Drama, as a form of audiovisual literary work, serves not only as a medium of entertainment but also as a representation of cultural values in society. One of the cultural values found in Chinese dramas is Confucianism. This study aims to analyze the representation of Confucian values in the character Nie Xie Guang in the Chinese drama Shine On Me. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through documentation and the Simak Bebas Libat Cakap (SBLC) technique. The data consisted of dialogues and actions of Nie Xie Guang representing Confucian values, while the data source was the drama Shine On Me. The data were analyzed based on the context of each scene and the concepts of Confucian values. The findings revealed 24 data representing five Confucian values: 仁 (ren), 礼 ( li ), 义 (yi), 孝 (xiao) and 忠 ( zhong). Ren is represented through compassion and concern, li through politeness and respect, yithrough actions based on truth and moral principles, xiao through respect and responsibility toward parents, and zhongthrough loyalty and responsibility in fulfilling duties. The findings indicate that Confucian values in Shine On Me remain relevant to modern life through family relationships, social interactions, and the professional life of the main character.
