Abstract

Islamic education is a comprehensive process of human development that integrates spiritual, intellectual, moral, social, and emotional dimensions. It is not merely understood as the transmission of knowledge but also as a systematic effort to cultivate individuals who possess faith, knowledge, noble character, and the ability to fulfill their role as Allah's vicegerents (khalīfah) on earth. This article aims to analyze the concepts, foundations, objectives, and principles of Islamic education through the three principal terminologies of ta‘līm, tarbiyah, and ta’dīb, as well as to examine the formulation of Islamic education proposed by the International World Conference on Muslim Education. This study employs a library research approach by examining primary sources, including the Qur'an and Hadith, alongside relevant scholarly books and academic journal articles. The findings reveal that ta‘līm emphasizes intellectual development, tarbiyah focuses on the gradual nurturing of human potential, and ta’dīb prioritizes the cultivation of ethical values and moral character. These three concepts complement one another in establishing a holistic and integrated paradigm of Islamic education that remains relevant in addressing the challenges of contemporary education.
